ALICE'S STORY: HOW TO FIGHT FOR THE CHANCE TO LIVE WHILE THE WHOLE WORLD IS FIGHTING WITH THE VIRUS

Our world is entrapped in the matrix of one word - “coronavirus”. It is entrapped so deep that behind the headlines and statistics, we sometimes fail to notice the lives of individuals. For example, the life of people like Alisa ...

Alisa is a 15-year-old girl whose situation is getting worse due to the current situation.

Alice's diagnosis is malignant paraganglioma (pheochromocytoma). She’s had a relapse, the disease has metastasized to the bones of the skull, back, legs” says Alisa's mother. “For the first time, the tumor was found 5 years ago on the portal of the vena cava near the kidney. We were treated in Moscow, at the Solntsevo Scientific and Practical Center, under compulsory medical insurance, it was said to be free of charge. The relapse was diagnosed two years ago. As a result of the consultation, it’s become clear that our doctors do not know how to treat the disease, since it is very rare. We have contacted all clinics in the world and the Helios clinic in Berlin has answered us.” Alisa's mother tells us.

As it often happens, in the struggle for the chance to live, people have to use their own resources and rely on the help of loved ones and empathic people:

“Of course, our friends have helped as much as they could. They’ve created a video to collect money to pay the bill of 100 thousand euros. I wouldn’t have been able to find so much money, although I try and work very hard. However, there is no work in this period of time. The German foundation "Heart in the Palms" has helped us and paid for several procedures totaling 1,500 euros. But the problem hasn’t been widely publicized. The government pays Alisa a pension and covers services of some doctors. Other foundations have refused to support us for an ambiguous reason, i.e. there is no official rejection from treatment. This is hell of a story...”- the girl’s mother does not continue the sticky subject.

The current situation is not clear, and the international lockdown only worsens the ambiguous prospects. But Alisa's mom keeps struggling.

“At the moment, the situation is strange. We're trying to find treatment, but the alternative with Germany is impossible now due to COVID-19. The MIBG therapy we tried did not work as expected. Soon we’ll get the drug approved by the Germans and can track the progression against time. ”

Alisa is not going to give up or despair. When her hair grew back, she asked to dye it blue, so the girl is a struggler. You can see for yourself that she is sincere and light-hearted:

- Please tell us your story from the day when everything started.

- Hello everyone, my name is Alisa, I'm 15 years old, now I'm in the 7th grade. I misremember the first incident. It seems I was 10. While running, I got a stitch in my side. Mom decided to take me to the doctor. It turned out that I had a tumor on my kidney. Since then I’ve been treating. I tell my mother all the time not to be nervous, that everything’s going be all right :) Now I’ve relapsed and we’ve started treatment in Germany. I hope I’ll succeed in it all and can go to school and go in for sports.

- What do you dream about?

- My dream is to graduate from school and continue studying at college as a cartoonist, and then to go to the Moscow State University at the biological department. I really love to draw and adore animals!

- Tell me, do you have many friends? Do you have enough time to communicate with them?

- I have few friends, but they are the very best! Before the quarantine, they’ve always visited me, and now we communicate via whatsapp. I really miss the walks, cinema and school.

- Do you keep your personal blog or diary?

- I have a page in vk only, I like to communicate personally. I also dream of starting a youtube channel about animation.

- Tell us about your interests.

- I really love anime, drawing, Harry Potter, animals, walking, swimming, and listening to music.

Thank you very much for your questions :)
