Separate waste collection: the North Barthant experience

Ecology and environmental protection - one of the most important and widely discussed issues within each meeting of the Government of the North Barth. In a short time, due to an active and versatile policy in this area, a number of effective measures were implemented. One of these innovations, designed to make the environment safer and cleaner, is the development of a separate waste collection system.

According to the head of the parliamentary committee on environmental issues, Ekaterina Gretsova, the idea of separate waste collection is successfully applied in many countries of the world. But in North Barkanta such experience can be called unique. In a very limited space, it was possible to create a small production workshop for partial recycling of waste. First of all, this is the pressing of waste paper, disinfection of organic waste. To date, most of the garbage is still sent for disposal on cargo ships to the mainland.

"The system of separate waste collection allows us to receive raw materials for secondary processing and release of finished products. The introduction of such a system has shown its high efficiency. It helped us to save on the purchase of raw materials. But there is still something to work on. Unfortunately, at the moment we can process, with our own capacities, no more than 15% of waste. There is no landfill for garbage disposal. Now, only his project is being developed, "says Ekaterina Gretsova.
